In this session, participants will explore highly effective teacher actions for increasing disciplinary literacy through student talk. Participants will learn how to harness the power of classroom conversation to foster deep learning of content area vocabulary by implementing activities that deepen critical thinking and boost student engagement. We will also discuss how to avoid common pitfalls.
A Tool Kit for Teachers: Effective Scaffolds to Amplify Student Performance
This session will energize teachers with resources to support diverse learners in the content area classrooms. We’ll focus on infusing learning objectives with specificity and enhancing lessons with scaffolded activities. This professional learning event will provide an overview of the AZ ELPS and explains how that translates to students actions in the content area classroom. Also explored will be how to differentiate your assignments based on student actions described in the AZ ELPS.

This professional learning event provides an overview of language scaffolds and linguistic supports that EL teachers can implement immediately to support ML students.
